Victorian, circa 1880 Glass fairy lamp with Nailsea-type fairy size dome in cranberry with white loopings. Sits in an embossed pink/purple tinged glass cup. Embossed clear glass candle holder rests inside the cup. Maker''s mark ''S. CLARKE PATENT TRADEMARK FAIRY'' to base of cup and candle holder. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated on page 34, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob and Pat Ruf. Good. No restoration. Dome: Minor nibbles around the top rim. Slight staining around the exterior base. Small air bubble to exterior. Cup: Manufacture crack to interior. Holder: Very slight wear. 4.5ins high
