The artist has imitated nature with remarkable sensitivity to capture the features of a ram with magnificent curly horns. Though this exquisite sculpture certainly qualifies as a work of art, it also served a practical function, perhaps as the cover of a pouring spout. This somehow does not seem an earthly ram--its splendor lifts it into the realm of myth and legend. Perhaps it is the heavenly Aries, come to earth from his place among the stars. - (FZ.086)   « Less

This charming horned goat--rendered in a lively, naturalistic style--seems to leap out into our world from another dimension entirely. Is it the celestial Capricorn or a more earth-bound creature? Either way, we are captivated by his graceful energy, caught in eternal transit between one place and the next. - (FZ.088)   « Less

Circa 1890-1910. Rare, rustic smoking stand in the Adirondack Style. Unusual for all it's detail, this stand is definitely a cut above the crowd, with a covered humidor for cigars or cigarettes, an ashtray, a match holder and striking plate, all surrounding a figure of a moose The body of the stand is beautifully figured, turned wood, with three turned legs, all with the rich patina and glow that is only achieved over the passage of time. The statue of the moose is white metal that has been painted brown with a red mouth and darker brown eyes and hooves. The body of the moose looks as if it has had some touch up painting in the past. Over-all excellent condition and finish, a real prize for an Adirondack or rustic furniture collector. 38" tall x 11" diameter. Price 1200.00   « Less

This Ancient Cross Has Been Set in a Modern 18 Karat Gold Pendant Though the cross is one of the simplest of forms, it is probably the most poignant. For Christians, the cross is the most potent symbol in existence, representing the earthly suffering, spiritual liberation, resurrection, and eternal life of Jesus Christ. The fact that an instrument of death was turned into a symbol of spiritual rebirth is amazing in itself. This is especially true for the faithful, and the Byzantine age was certainly one of fervent piety and extreme fanaticism. In terms of religious expression, this lovely cross falls into the category of gentle piousness and deep devotion. Although the image of Christ does not appear on this cross, his divinity is suggested by the smaller Greek Cross at the center. This ancient shape of the cross originated from the Chi Rho, a popular monogram for Christ. Thus, this small cross is symbolic of the crucified Christ. This personal relic does not shout of pain and passion, it is instead an elegant reminder of the one event central to Christianity. Though worn publicly, it does not flaunt its creed; but proclaims the wearer is sharing the quiet joys of faith. - (FJ.6754)   « Less
