A Continental Faience Tromp L''oeil Box in the Form of an Artichoke, Schrezheim or Proskau, Circa 1770. The green artichoke is naturalistically moulded and painted with the tips in pink. Schrezheim, one of the successful European faience factories in the eighteenth century, was founded by Johann Baptist Bochs, and was the only factory to be established within the area. ;Between 1752 and the death of Bochs in 1800, some excellent work was done. ;This included tromp l''oeil in the form of cauliflowers, tortises, bundles of asparagus and other vegetables. ;The typical colors of Schrezheim inclued several various colors of green, brown, yellow, and manganese. ;The factory is usually associated with other Zurich factories, and the type of faience produced there. Proskow is located in the western region of Poland, near Opole, and is also known for its production of faience. Height: 5 1/8 inches (13cm) See: German Porcelain and Faience by S.
