Rare & Important English Lord Leverhulme Inlaid Satinwood Lady''s Dressing / Work Table George III - Circa: 1810. A Rare Sheraton satinwood Lady''s work table with exceptional inlays. Having a fitted interior, mirror, writing area and slide top work area with cedar wood inserts. Supported by tapered legs terminated in brass castered feet. Now, in untouched condition having some normal crackling to the cedar lined compartments. There is a partial replacement of the bottom for the preservation of the piece. Attibuted to: Mayhew & Ince - Marshall Street - Carnaby Market, London. The paper inventory label indicates this table was in the collection of Lord Leverhulme, a prominent collection partially dispersed in the 1920''s Width 23'', Height: 29 1/4'', Depth: 18'' ''The work table was often created with more than work in mind. They would be placed in sitting rooms which would serve as small entertainment parlors. Thus, although these little tables would hold sewing, etc., they were in fact an important social symbol of taste and fashion. Consequently, these tables were often little gems of superb cabinetwork with much effort spent on full decorative effect. This table exhibits work by an exceptional hand. ''William Hesketh Lever, 1st Viscount Leverhulme Sept. 19 1851, Bolton, Lancashire, England to May 7, 1925, Hampstead, London British soap and detergent entrepreneur who built the international firm of Lever Brothers. Lever entered the soap business in 1885, when he leased a small, unprofitable soapworks. With his brother, James Darcy Lever, he began to make soap from vegetable oils instead of tallow and registered the name ''Sunlight'' for the product. Lord Leverhulme was an avid collector of important English Furniture. This is the finest George III - Circa: 1810 Hepplewhite Inlaid Satinwood Lady''s Dressing / Work Table currently offered by Equinox Antiques & Fine Art Established 1984 « Less
