SOLD A very unusual antique, second have of the 19th century, silver Cross composed of 58 small Indian Travancore State silver Chuckram coins, soldered to a silver wire frame. The suspension loop is stamped with the French import ‘Swan’ silver hallmark.

The 'Swan' mark was introduced on 1st June 1864; it was used on silver articles imported into France from countries without Customs Conventions. Its use was discontinued on 1st June 1893.

Travancore was a princely state in India under the British Raj, with it's capital at Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) ruled by the Travancore Royal Family. By the early 19th century the kingdom became a princely state under the British.


Dimensions: Height: including the suspension loop is approximately 10cm (4in).

Weight: 27 grams (0.952397 Ounce).
